I downloaded Quake from 3d game section, and it download as "quake106.zip" and i unzipped it, and it had 2 files "deice" and "install", so i run deice, and it installs Quake to C:/Quake_SE, but none of the files in there do anything, they just open and close, can anyone help me?

I'd say dosbox, but maybe the game is a bit too fast for that. You could try reinstalling. Wasn't there a windows remake, or conversion? (Dosraider?)

I think there was a Windows executable for Quake. I'm not sure it always worked, though.

To install Quake you MUST go through dosbox:
Unzip everything to a qtemp dir: ( unzip through windows - not dosbox !)
x:/games/qtemp
run dosbox , mount the games folder in dosbox as c:
mount c x:/games<enter>
c:<enter>
cd qtemp<enter>
install<enter>
asked what drive input c
asked what dir input quake
let the game install (will take some time)

To play on XP :
start dosbox,
mount c x:/games<enter>
c:<enter>
cd quake<enter>
quake<enter>
Go to options and set your pref's , hit <ALT+ENTER> for fullscreen , i don't believe you can have music on the shareware version ,so you prob will get an error warning , ignore it.There is a command switch to disable cd audio , something about -nocd or -noaudio , but have forgotten it.....
Quake is a very demanding game , you will need a real high-end and correct'setup pc to play it through dosbox on XP!! disable EVERYTHING that's running on the background. There is a Q95.bat but as far as i know it doesn't work on XP.

I don't believ you're on W98 , should run fine on this OS ( full game does with minimal fuss).
But it would better if you give your FULLl sys-specs , i could say if it's even worth ( or possible) the try to run quake.....
Good luck.

[EDIT] after unzipping you must have a deice, install and some resource files , be sure to unzip ALL files !!!
