I cant get Battle chess enhanced to work on the Battle chess collection cd.
I run into two problems
1. Sound skips, I tried VDM sound but it didnt work the music will skip and repeat when I first start sometimes after I make a move it works like it should but when I quit the game it still plays.
2. This is the major problem, When I try to play and I make a move it works but when the computer tries to take my piece the pieces will step next to each other and thats it they will stand and stare at each other but I can hear the sound like their fighting, after this the game stops nothing happens.
I also tried dosbox but when I do it just gives me a black screen
Any ideas?

Hmm well by messing around with it I got dosbox to work with Battle chess but....
The animations for the battles dont play out, the sound is a lil choppy but can live with it=)
So any ideas why the animations arent working?
I tried copying the cd to my drive and running it there, that didnt work, I tried playing the game off the cd that didnt work, tried reinstalling the game and that didnt do either.
What is Vesa? I try to run it and it says wrong system configuration.

Vesa is a graphic driver, that indeed:
"Vesa gives nice colors... Owh.. Look at the pretty colors".
It's seems that there is something wrong with your param's.
I don't have or play such a game,so the only thing i can do is give you allround ideas to improve your gaming:
1)dosbox starts in vga, look if there is a readme,*.nfo or so file with your game, maybee CGA?but i don't really know if vesa runs with CGA.Anybody??Try to change dosbox to CGA(dosbox.conf in your dosbox start item, the line is machine=cga, try it out)
2)Also look for a newer vesa or univesa driver.
3)for the sound:set the buffer higher in dosbox.conf.
4)FOR STARTERS:maybe read the dosbox readme, also in your dosbox start item,it is a treasury of information.
