Dominus - Can't install, no .NFO file?

Post by meme »

Hey everyone I'm hoping you can help me figure out how to get the 1994 DOS game Dominus to install and run on my XP machine.

Dominus - the game I I can't get to work can be downloaded here :shame:

Here is a list of all the files included in the above .Zip

Notice that there isn't a .NFO file? I've read that every ripped game needs one of these in order to install correctly. Is this true?

Well anyway, running the install application from DOS allows me to specify the source and destination drives to install from/to. I used an application called FAKECD to have my disk drives point back to my extracted directoy as per the-underdogs.org suggestion. But then the installation fails and afterwards I get errors such as "cannot initAsm" when trying to start the game.

Also - from this page I glean that there is some sort of copy protection device on Domius that is capable of being cracked - but I can neither find the required tools or figure out what the author is talking about.

Can anyone determine how I can get Dominus to work again without the original copy? Others most likely have -- else it wouldn't be available for download, right?[/url]

Thanks for your help!

So I downloaded DOS box.
I mounted the extracted directory of the game to it and then ran install and tried installing from the C drive (which I actually had mounted as the extracted game folder).
And the installation failed just as before!

I don't even know what's going wrong!

If I can get the installer to load, why won't it install!?

Maybee if you ask it on the HOTU technical help forum, maybee (me?) on the same HOTU technical forum could answer you:
THE GAME DOESN'T NEED INSTALL!
Just unzip it,doesn't have to be on c:,mount it the right way into dosbox and type:
DOM <enter>
BTW:That's on XP,i even't can guess what OS you have.
BTW2:Where you get the idea to "FAKECD" it?
EDIT:the only thing you need the install for is to set up your soundcard, just type install on the dosboxprompt and choose soundblaster, then exit, you don't need to install the game itself.
