Just Curious Again...

Post by Dark Lord »

Well since the first poll ended, I decided to make another. Does anyone know when the first Space game was made? I'll post the answer when the poll is over.

1971, Space invaders? That's just a guess.

Spacewar.
I thought it was 1961, but I guess it's 1962.

I was under the impression it was 1964? 62 must be it, then...

1958 - biatch
Spacewar--MIT student Steve Russell's protogame--featured two dueling spaceships controlled by toggle switches. It was created on the hulking PDP-1 computer, a $120,000 mainframe the size of a Buick.

Here's a tip, it was created between 900 B.C. and 3000 A.D.

The hints are about as funny as me guessing "2005" over and over again.

I was going to say 1961, but since it's not up there, I'll take '62.

The answer in SpaceWar but it was made in 1962 not '61. I'm getting this from a book I have about old computers and stuff so if you think I'm wrong, don't complain to me.

I checked this in the best book of video game history that I have (<a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0072231726/">High Score</a>, awesome book, well worth the price) and it says that while the idea for SpaceWar was conceived in 1961, the first version of the game wasn't finished until 1962.

So there! *slams fist on table decisively*

Now let us never speak of this again. :cuccoan:

no I don't have their email. The book was written in '93. Not too many people had their email listed in their books back then.
