Darksun

Post by Jason »

Running windows 98, 20 gig hard drive (six left) ah, not sure what else about my pc *winces*

Ok trying to run both darksun and Master of orion in dos mode, Master of orion gives me the error that i need at least 1024 extended memory, running it with the msdos shortcut and the configed file with the RAM peramiter doesint help at all

Darksun says i need more conventional memory something like 588 but even with a bootdisk i cant free up that much im not sure how to fix this, ive tried running both of these games through msdos prompt and in real ms dos, im all out of ideas really.

Thanks for any help

ok i went back and relooked over things to try to find out more,

System:
Win 98 second edition using a
Master riptide pci audio
255.0MB ram
Intel celeron processer.

I tried to find the grafics card but dont know where to look to find that out, so i redid the games looking at the errors, in full dos mode i have 588k conventional memory free, but when i run Darksun:shattered lands it tells me i need another 5074 bytes to play, Master of orion says i need 1024 extended memory.
Ive tried using a bootdisk for darksun, it boots into dos and says type "darksun" to start game, i do, but it comes back bad command or file name, tried the shortcut where i configured the system and autoexec files but when i do that it tells me theres too many parameters and boots back to windows Using the shortcut with Master of orion doesint do anything at all, still tells me i need 1024 extended memory.

Thanks again any help is appreciated

http://www.dosgames.com/~jms/dospack.zip

Download that, unzip it, then insert a floppy disk in the floppy drive, then run INSTALL.BAT. Then use that disk as a bootdisk, then run the game. (This is FreeDOS).

Hope it helps.

*sighs* it didnt im sorry, i did what you said and booted with the bootdisk, i tried running darksun with the standard "darksun" command and i get the same thing i get in dosbox, the screen'll kick out a moment then it'll reload still in dos saying that "illegal command :mode" if i try the other way useing the secondary entry "dsun" all it does is pop the screen out then back in again, nothing else. MOO seems to work, well seems, problem is i dont have a mouse in dos it seems its always stuck up in the left hand upper corner.. any more aid would be greatly appreciated

Well, seems i did something wrong, when i ran freedos or a game or something during the past few hours i seem to have FRIED my sound card, the riptide one, it no longer recognizes that the drivers have been installed, and nothing i do brings them back, seems i now have no mouse in dos, and no sound at all, dos or windows lol, sorry for the added question but how the heck did i do that to my sound card? Lol and any clue how to fix it?
