From the looks of this, pMAX is a DOS extender, sorta like DOS4GW, Causeway, DPMI, etc.
So this affects all games that use the pMAX DOS extender. We need to find a way to allow pMAX to work. Apparently it is not compatible with Windows at all.
Thus, since DOSBox is not too wonderful for 32-bit gaming, our best bet is either to boot in "pure" DOS mode, or a full-blown virtual machine emulator.

Once you set this up, it is just like having another computer. At that, you will need an operating system to install in the new fake computer. For this, I recommend FreeDOS,

Doing all this may be fairly complicated, but it's the only solution in sight. But it's worth a try if you really want to make the game work.
