You'll.. Need to be a bit more detailed than that. What OS are you running, and what is the exact error message?

Perhaps Scorched Earth is attempting to gain direct access to the hardware, and Windows XP refuses to allow it (Windows ME, 98 and 95 were OK with it)
DOSBox is certainly worth a try in this case, as this looks like the Windows application layer is incompatible with Scorched Earth.

You don't need a game disc, simply run it all from your hard drive.

Absolutely none at all
Don't worry about it.
It's primary purpose is to provide an emulation layer, not to slow down your computer, anyway.

First of all, put the game in a folder on the root of C: (i.e.: C:\SCORCH)
http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/dosb ... r=internap
Click above to download the actual program. When finished downloading, then install it.
When you're finished installing it, run the program from the Start menu, then when you're at the command line, type MOUNT C: C:\SCORCH then press Enter. Then type C: and press enter, then type SCORCH and press Enter.
Let us know how far you get

DOSBox might be a bit too complicated for you I guess...
Can you get access to an older computer using Windows 98 or Windows 95? If yes, try to run the game there.
