No clue what this is called

I remember there was a REALLY old game (maybe 11 or 12 years ago) that I used to play at school. The character was a triangle and you had to translate him across the screen and use him to form different shapes or something. I think you wrote commands and then the triangle would move. Does anyone remember what this was called?

I think you're referring to "LOGO". It has probably been remade 100 times on various systems with different names (sometimes involving "turtle" since the triangle is often referred to as the turtle.) I plan to add that to dosgames.com during my next update ... for now there are some links to various versions here:
