fleet defender

Post by elmwood »

Good evening.
I used to play F16 fleet defender a lot on my old dos pc P200. 32meg. obscure video card. I really enjoyed it but could never turn all the effects up full without the program chugging. Fast forward a couple of years and I'm looking at an old 400MHz celeron PC. I think 'Hmm I bet that would run dos PDQ. So, load DOS - OK. Load F16 Fleet defender - OK. Run F16 FD - Nooooo. I can't remember the exact error message but it was something to do with the dos memory extender F16 FD used (not DOS4 somat somat). Before you say 'buy F16 FD gold' Is there something dumb I'm missing. Cheers elmwood.

Backup your CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT files, then delete them. Then reboot, then try running the game.

umm why would you deleet them?

that means you have nothing to boot off..

To my dismay you may need to configure these files a bit..

DOnt ask me how as i am a MacAddict and i rather keep away from these files. I know a few things about them but that is all

Hi all,

Looked in my book-shelf yesterday and found the manual to "F-14 Fleet Defender". Trouble is that I run "Windows 2000", so it did not work after I tried to install it (I never estimated the game to work in Win2000 either, hehe ;)

Can someone please give me some info of how to make this old favourite game to work on my machine?

Thanks in advance,
Rikard

My setup:
P4-3.2 GHz, Soundblaster Live (Value), Radeon 9800XT
Mobo: ASUS P4C800-E Deluxe

Nevermind my question right now, I decided to make a dual-boot (DOS 6.22 and Win2k) instead, but most likely I will have to return to you and your competence in this community since I reckon that I will run into some (hardware-related?) troubles. Until then ...

Rgds.
