100 Greatest Artists of Hard Rock
I saw this on VH1 last night... normally, I don't like their "100 greatest" features but I really enjoyed this one, if only for the interviews.

Maybe, but Nirvana definately needs to go. I mean, look at the top 10:
Kiss, Guns N' Roses, The Who, Van Halen, Metallica, AC/DC, Jimi Hendrix, Black Sabbath, and Led Zeppelin, all gods of heavy metal, more or less. Then there's Nirvana, some stupid grunge band that can't even sing right. How does that make sense?

The reason Nirvana was so great was the energy they put into their music. I also think they have some of the best drum work produced in the past decade or so.
And they'd kick Van Halen's tush any day of the week.
I think The Ramones, Pink Floyd, and Cream should be ahead of Soundgarden, Sex Pistols, and Kiss. And Aerosmith only has the right to be in the top twenty because of their longevity.
Also, what the crap is Foreigner doing on there? Boo!

There are around about 6000 - 7000 Metal bands (90% are Eastern European), 1000 Hard Rock bands, and 2000 - 3000 Bands that are Alternative (Punk, Grunge, Industrial yadda yadda yadda)...added up thats 9,000 - 11,000 bands and it is growing by the week...plus you have to think most of these bands have one or more releases (Average approx = 7.5 releases)...so making a Top 100 that has artists what we like is basically impossible unless you had a wicked CD collection of 50,000 - 90,000 CDs which are only Metal, Hard Rock and Alternative...the only way they could afford these types of collections is if they win the lottery or have as much money as Michael Jackson's Personal Surgeon...So they do surveys of the most popular, which are in groups of 10 groups of 10, they normally change it per person as every person is different...basically it is the same thing that radio stations do to find out what people are after on the radio, the other way is people fill out questionaires in Magazines/News Media.
To speak Lamans Terms they have a generator program that generates artists that sound similar and and you say "yeah or nah" when they ask you which is better!!

Yes, Black Sabbath number TWO!!!!! YES!!!!! and the Ozzy years were their best, not the Dio years! (ugh)
Van Halen lucky seven !!!! alright.
Led Zeppelin is kinda overrated, in my opinion... but at least they made the best song ever: "Stairway to Heaven"
that list is really great !!
