Something is stealing my memory in DOS

Post by KeljuIvan »

I used to be able to play many DOS games on my old computer, but now I don't have enough memory for some games. When I use the mem command I can see that 39kB of memory is taken by something called MSDOS. This appears both in Windows and when booted into real DOS. This hasn't always been here so there must be a way to get rid of it. Anyone know about this?

Well, you can load some of it into high memory and the Upper Memory blocks. To do that you need to have
DOS=HIGH, UMB in your config.sys file.
*Press Ctrl+Alt+Delete and then end the program which isn't responding*
*So how do I do that then?*
*Exactly how it sounds..*
*But what If I don't want to do that?*
*Well why phone if you won't take my advice?*
*Because I wanted someone to talk to*
*Well if you won't press Ctrl+Alt+Delete press that little button just beneath where the handset goes on your phone*
*this o...*
*dialtone*

yay!

I have that line there, but the memory count is still lower than what I'd like. There never was anything like that MSDOS thingy, which takes 39kB. What can that be?
