I found this game on my old computer and I put it on my Windows ME and it does not work.
It tells me
Error: The pMAX protected-mode handler driver cannot find a protected-mode interface. Make sure you are running this game from DOS, not Windows(R) or other multitasking environments.
It also says it may not not well if it isn't in MSDOS mode.
This game was made in 1996 by WebFoot Technologies Inc if that helps you.
Please help I used to play this game when I was a lot younger .
Windows ME help for old DOS game titled Interpose
I have the same problem trying to play Pinball Illusion (illusion.exe). But I can't figure out how to play it in Windows XP.
"The pMAX protected-mode handler driver cannot find a protected-mode The pMAX protected-mode handler driver cannot find a protected-mode interface. Please try creating a DOS bootdisk (see the "troubleshooting" section in your user manual for details), re-booting your machine with it and then re-running the game"

From the looks of this, pMAX is a DOS extender, sorta like DOS4GW, Causeway, DPMI, etc.
So this affects all games that use the pMAX DOS extender. We need to find a way to allow pMAX to work. Apparently it is not compatible with Windows at all.
Thus, since DOSBox is not too wonderful for 32-bit gaming, our best bet is either to boot in "pure" DOS mode, or a full-blown virtual machine emulator.
One such virtual machine emulator is Microsoft Virtual PC 2004, a free download to use it for 45 days. Click http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/deta ... layLang=en to get it.
Once you set this up, it is just like having another computer. At that, you will need an operating system to install in the new fake computer. For this, I recommend FreeDOS, http://www.freedos.org
Doing all this may be fairly complicated, but it's the only solution in sight. But it's worth a try if you really want to make the game work.
