Warcraft II: Tides Of Darkness on Win2K

Post by Guest »

I am trying to get Warcraft II: Tides Of Darkness to work on my comp. The simple information:

Video Card: GeForce 4 MX 440
OS: Windows 2K (built on NT Technology)

now when i run it normally it juss crashes so i went into the command prompt and ran it from there to see what was going wrong and i got this error...

Error:

Warcraft could not find a VESA video driver. Type UVCONFIG from the command line before running War2. You will only need to do this once. If you still have problems, try loading the VESA driver provided with your video card or contact your video card manufacurer for a VESA driver.

so any help on trying to get this to work would be much appreciated

Have you tried UVCONFIG?

I'm not familiar with the GeForce cards and whether they support VESA / can be made to support VESA, because I never tried to run VESA games on anything newer than a Voodoo 3000.

Perhaps you can resolve this issue, but maybe you should just aim towards getting Warcraft II: Battle Net Edition, which is a native Windows version and has a few small improvements over the DOS release.

Try running the setup again, if it plays up download DOSbox.

The compatibilty problems of Win2K/XP are not nearly as big as those of WinNT. Pretty much every Windows game either runs off the box or can be made to run with some tweaking/patches. DOS games have major problems, that's true, and you're experiencing some of them now. Although, I daresay they have more to do with your video card than your operating system.

I haven't tried War2BNE on Win2K, but it runs on my XP machine, so it should run on 2K.
