Trying to find a late 80's-early 90's game

Post by Guest »

I knew the game simply as Tank Wars, the game consisted of a 2D cutthrough of a mountain, with different color "tanks" positioned around it. Each tank took turns firing at the others, over or sometimes through the hill. There was a variable of wind added in, and you could play up to 10 people I believe. After each match you could purchase weapon and armor upgrades for your tank.

Thanks in advance

Seems like an accurate description of Scorched Earth by Wendell Hicken.

Download it at ftp://ftp.etel.ru/pub/games/scorch15.zip

From what I can see of the icons, that looks to be the game, thanks a bunch. Now to just get it to work. Like most guests here I am more of a point and click type than a DOS pro. :(

You're welcome. :)

If you have Windows XP, 2000, or NT, you may have problems since XP is not very DOS friendly. If you have Windows ME, 98, or 95, it should work fine, since those 3 Windowses have a DOS foundation.

Yeah, unfortunately I am running XP on this PC. I tried a few of the compatability fixes listed in the Getting Games to Work Forum, but I keep getting a 16 bit MS-DOS sub-system error that says invalid startup directory, please check your pif file.

Delete SCORCH.PIF, found in the same folder as the game. Then run it.
