Magic Carpet Plus, running too slow?

I'm having trouble with Magic Carpet Plus, and a couple of other DOS games, where they actually run painfully slowly/jerky. On occasion, Magic Carpet has totally crashed my machine. I'm really stumped at what the problem could be...

If its really necessary, my machine specs are:
2Ghz Intel Celeron
512MB RAM
Windows XP Home Edition
Realtek AC97 sound

I have no idea about this one as it does the same in dosbox and all..
