Who is the best guitar player?

OTHER - me. I do not posses the same skills as these great musicians but as i play guitar i am in fact a guitar player. Being the BEST GUITAR PLAYER doesn't neccisarily mean you are the BEST AT PLAYING THE GUITAR.

SERIOUSLY - You cannot judge anything music to be better than anything else. Music is not something that can be measured - it is a soul thing. People like different things aswell... it's like colours. You can't say outrightly - BLUE is better than RED.

Such a wide field and so little time to listen to them all... and have time again to enjoy the few who are soooo very good.

The list above is mainly Rock. In that group I'm partial to Jeff Beck, Steve Howe, Greg Lake, Robin Trower and possibly Justin Hayward or Peter Frampton honorables. Each being stratispheric in his element.

But everday I'm surprised. The cool stuff on Echoes or New Dimensions some nights are soaring. I'm just getting to know them. But they aren't Rock so much. Still, the wizards are out there to be found.

GAMER is right. you can ask who is your fave but not who is the best because:

1. People have different tastes
2. Almost all guitarplayers have the same "skill", it's creativity that matters. Some newbies can recreate good songs, but not make them.

It's hard to narrow it down... some of my favorite guitarists include Eddie Van Halen, Dave Murray from Iron Maiden, Dave Mustaine of Megadeth, Joe Satriani, and Angus Young. I can't even pick an all time favorite band... it's a toss up between 100 bands spanning 30 years. lol

2 things.

1. This topic is somewhat dead.

2. Don't take this the wrong way, but in my humble opinion the ex-bassist from Korn couldn't play to save his life. Give me Steve Val, Eric Clapton, Herman Li, Sam Totman, John Petrucci, Bob Marley, Scott Ian, Dan Spitz, Jimi Hendrix, Paul Gilbert, Jari Mäenpää, Teemu Mäntysaari, Jukka Koskinen, Luca Turilli or Timo Tolkki any day of the week over Brian Welch, who BTW only played electric as far as I know.
