Wing Commander: Privateer - sound issues
Wing Commander: Privateer - sound issues
Umm im running privateer from a dos boot and everything works fine except the sound effects and speech.. its all f'ed basically.. im using the sb16 emulation that comes with sound blaster live.. anyone got any ideas? its really shitting me cause this is a great game and i want to have sound effects.. (i knew i shouldn't have given away my 486)
Since I'd rather not start a new topic, I'll post here
Running Privateer in Windows produces an error message regarding EMS, and running it in DOS starts the game but gives me a different error message that has the memory of my computer at the top.
I'm never one to know about all this EMS crap, so is there anyone out there who can tell me how to get this working?
P.S: Do you need a mouse driver for this game?

Privateer errors
When the game crashes in dos it is most likely a sound issue,
try running with no sound to make sure this is the problem and then
follow the instructions in the second message. I can run the game but only without sound which sucks.

Hi i've got the same problem as Bennie, but with a slight twist:
I'm using Caldera Dr Dos 7.02 and its included extended memory manager, which uses different switches. If someone could post the definitions of all the switches used in the following fix so i can translate it that would be great.

Running Privateer in Win95/98
Hello All,
Most of you probably know about the MyJemm utility. For those that don't, this marvelous little jewel of a program allows you to play Privateer in native windows mode.
Advantages include: first off, I've found it to be very stable. Second, you can use USB devices. And all my sound card issues went away...
Cheers, and happy flying!

I got a new one. I am running FreeDOS, I can get privateer to run with no sound, but we all know that sucks. I have a Cirrus Logic based Sound card that is on the motherboard (CS4626 chipset). I can't seem to find any drivers for that chipset for DOS. Does anyone know any way to get this sound card working under DOS using some sort of Generic drivers. I know for a fact that the sound card is SB compatible.
Help would be greatly appreciated.
