Quest for Glory I and Win2k

Post by psyham »

Hiya;

I'm running Windows 2000 (SP4) with an Oxygen GVX1 video card and an Athlon processor (not sure how fast, I think it's 1.1 Ghz... how do I check that?)

I was so excited to find a copy of Quest for Glory 1 (one of my favorite games in junior high), but for some reason the game crashes on me after the same amount of time every time, just a few minutes after I begin playing. It doesn't matter where I am or what I'm doing, it just freezes completely and I have to reboot.

None of my other programs freeze on me like this (although I have yet to test out other DOS-based games). I am unsure what to do now. I've installed VDMS and DosBox and tried both, I've tried turning the sound off all together, I've tried shutting down all other processes and applications before beginning, but still the same problem.

Once, upon freezing, a message popped up that said "CAN'T FIND INTERP.ERR".

The only thing I can think of that I haven't tried is booting into an actual DOS environment, but I'm not sure how to do that. I'm not sure that it would alleviate the problem but I'm willing to try it. Is there any way to do it without a floppy? I'm fresh out. I do have blank CDs.

Thanks so much!

Start --> Programs --> Accesories --> System Tools --> System information, and look in the Processor Field. (btw, an Athlon is more than sufficient, in fact, I think that might be the cause for your trouble. arf, I dunno, not sure.)

And, I dunno about the rest. maybe the others can help you. :)

Try downloading it again.

It sounds like your missing a file. Then again, you are running XP, no?
