sound problem on W2k

Post by keenfan »

After loading Keen 4 on my W2K system, it runs fine. Only problem is now all my other audio is gone (media player, etc). I have deinstalled the audio driver (ALi) and reinstalled, no luck.

Most simple thing first. Bring up volume control thingy and check that some or more aren't at minimum... such as wave, master, CD...

else
start->settings->control panel->SYSTEM

From there, you should be able to show a list of all hardware on your machine (don't know the name of this feature in english, please enlighten me)...

expand sound video game stuff: Does anything have any strange marks at the left of the device that all (hopefully) your other devices lack? Locate the sound stuff, rclick for properties
- First tab should give you info about why this is not working correctly.
- Under driver you can get info on device driver. On my old computer I've had problems with it losing the settings for on board wave synth in which cases I remove the setting that specified this, then specify to use the same one again.
- Under resources any conflicts will be shown. Old cards needed to be set to specific values manually. Some even needed you to tell the card directly what resources to use (by configging with some setup program delivered with hardware. might even need to move a jumper on card to switch from PnP, which worked very badly early on, to jumperless mode. running win2k i suspect you have more current hardware than this though.)

How does these things help out, and did you get any additional info when running through these things?
