im running on WinXP and my PC is AMD Athlon XP 1700+ and when i play DooM for example it runs slow... specially when there are alot of... well... effects
same with Heretic
and all other dos games

What's your 3d card? or does the game use a 3d card...

i doubt that DooM uses a 3D card ;)

Basic version doesn't, but theres somewhere (I don't know where) a 3-D patch available. It's not by id, so it's possible that it doesn't work correctly.
NO Windows, NO DOSBox, DOS!

Basically Doom and all those kinda games weren't meant to be for Windows XP, they basically weren't even meant for Windows 98 or above but they still work on 98 because it is built on the same build frame as 95. Best bet would be to find a cheap assed computer (486 - Pentium II -MMX) which someone is bound to be giving away and snatch it off them for about $50 - $150 but before that check the computer make sure it's worthy enough, give it a thorough FDISK & Format and install Windows 95 or 98 on it and use it for all your DOS Games Purposes well that's what i'm planning to do!!

May want to disable sound or try running in DOSBOX with VDsomething sounddriver fix
