Is there a program that will slow DOS games down?

I play alot of DOS games on WINXP, but they run WAY too fast. Is there anyway to slow them down?

Moslo. See the <html><a href=http://www.dosgames.com/essential.php>Dosgames.com Essential Utilities Page</a></html> for more info-it really is an excellent program.

(If you have trouble getting it to work, post here and I'll give you simplified instructions for it... but seriously, once you get past the technical stage it really is a lifesaver)

Ok, I'm having a little trouble.

INSTALLATION

To install Mo'Slo, simply copy moslo.com into a directory that is
accessible through your system path variable. To view the path variable,
simply enter the word 'path' at the DOS command prompt. You will see
a list of paths separated by semicolons (;).

In DOS 6.22 and earlier, C:\DOS is almost always in your path variable.
In DOS 7 (Win95), C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND is a good choice.

What the hell does this mean?

Ok, I figured that out. Now it is telling me:

Unable to find WARCRAFT II data file 'data\maindat.war'
The file 'war2.ini' contains the 'CDPATH' to your CD-ROM drive and may
need to be modified if your CD-ROM drive has been reconfigured.

Please help! I'm hella Stupid!

Copy the files you need from the CD to the computer then reconfigure those other files

Thats if you have the CD

Personally, I just put the moslo .com file in Windows/command making it a universally applicable command (like dir)-you may want to try that.

I am trying to use MoSlo to run WarCraft 2 and I get a message saying:

Unable to find WARCRAFT II data file 'data\maindat.war'
The file 'war2.ini' contains the 'CDPATH' to your CD-ROM drive and may
need to be modified if your CD-ROM drive has been reconfigured.

I'm not sure what files it may need from the CD. 'Data\maindat.war' IS on the hard drive as well as the CD, and the CDPATH in 'war2.ini' says 'E:', which IS the correct path to my CD ROM. I have no idea how to fix this. I hate Microsoft...

Reinstall. It's recommended to slow command.com instead o' game exe, but then game may not work properly.

If you're booting into pure DOS, try the following:
1. Copy the data files to the war2 data folder
2. rem out the CD drivers in config.sys and autoexec.bat eg.
rem DEVICE=c:\cdrom\cddriver.sys ... blah blah
rem c:\dos\mscdex.exe /D:mscd001 ...
3. Put the following line in config.sys
FILES=50
4. In war2.ini
cdpath=.

I'd say you just need a decent path statement. "Path=c:\;c:\dos;c:\windows;c:\batch;c:\temp;c:\data..." is an example. Include all main directories (folders) off of the root (c:\) that you KNOW your DOS progs are in. The command.com will look in these dirs in the order stated, so if you get shorted to the wrong place you need to be a bit savy about duplicate file names on your machine. The "c:\data" entry assumes that the file your PC is trying to find is in "c:\data". If it's in "c:\warcraft\data", then you should be able to use just "c:\warcraft". Only catch is the max length of this path statement (in MS-DOS up to 6.22 at least) can contain no more than 255 characters. In the old days we used small names for the main dirs off the root to get them all in OR put as many of the same things under one dir name (c:\games, for example). 32-bit names solved this but D-Gers still must watch out.

Hmmmm..... "D-Gers" (dee-jers). Have I just coined an idium name for DOS Gamers??
