Game Galore CD dos games collection

Post by Raulinho »

So, I'm not looking for just one DOS game, but rather a whopping 290 of them... apparently.

The image I attached is that of the back of a cd case for a cd called Game Galore. On it was a collection of dos games from the early 90's and before.

I no longer have the cd (just its case), but I would love it if anyone knew how and where I can access the list of games that were included in this collection.

I also remember some of the games that were included in this collection. They were as follows:
- Animal Quest (1991)
- Classic Concentration (1988)
- all Commander Keen games (90-91)
- Cosmo's Cosmic Adventure (1992)
- Dangerous Dave (1990)
- Duke Nukem (1991)
- Ground War (1991)
- the three Hugo games (91-92)
- Jill of The Jungle (1992)
- Secret Agent (1992)
- Star Goose (1989)
- Tank Wars (1990)

As you can see there are plenty of other games in that collection that I cannot remember and many of which I have probably never played. Also, it seems like the collection had no games that were made after 1992, which might be an important clue.

I also have some vague memories of other games from the Game Galore cd that I played or tried to play, but I couldn't find them or wasn't sure if I identified them correctly. (For e.g., I distinctly remember there was a Dracula-themed game that would simply crash whenever I tried to play it)

If anyone has any kind of information that could help me identify at least some, if not all, the games on the Game Galore cd, I would greatly appreciate it.

Thank you!
Raul

I did not find your disc, but maybe something can be found here:

'1400 Programs' - a shareware DOS collection from 1992 by the same publisher (Powersource Computer Gmbh); some are games, but most are utilities.

A DOS/Windows collection from 1994, with almost the right title - 'Games Galore' - another publisher though: 'Layton Interactive Software':

Thank you very much for you quick reply.

Noob question here: is there a way to tell what the actual programs/games on the two cds are without running the .iso file? I tried downloading it, but it takes forever (the download speed is very slow). I also clicked on the "view contents" button, but I can't tell what any of those files are for :shame:

Thanks!

I don't think so, it requires the uploader to have made a separate content listing I think.
Searching for a specific game/demo at archive.org can sometimes work.

Another place to look is e.g. cd.textfiles.com - this too can be overwhelming, but if the CD you are looking for contained shareware programs, these often were available in many different collections through a year, so looking at specific years in these lists, might reduce the amount somewhat.

As your disc was a German publication, finding a German language gamers group might help, maybe someone kept the CD & magazines?
