After Burner (1987) like starship flying game

Hi
So, the game is an After Burner (1987) type, only more primitive. You control a starship of some sort (seeing it from behind) and fly through the wastelands of a desolate planet, avoiding rocks and other obstacles. The most memorable thing in the whole game was a face in the upper part of the screen/status bar. It was an ordinary human face but the more you progressed through the game the more it became disfigured and grotesque, like an alien of some sort. The graphics were CGA or EGA.
