i kant get my games to work.plaz post some downloads of colorcards or video card things to work it.....nd is windows3.1 the same as win32?? PLEEZE REPLY THANX VERY MUCH
This topic really shouldn't be here, but since it is....
1)Win 3.1 is NOT the same as Win32. Win 3.1 was more of a program for DOS
2)Do you mean find a fix for your computer or games that work?
3)What version of Windows/DOS/? do you use?
The problem i noticed with playing a exstinct dos game on a newer system is usaly the os.win3.1 will play any game from old dos.it should,it is a basic windows program and more for dos...
win95,the advanced windows system at the time can run any of the dos games.it can do this is windows,or you can set the program to play in dos only. it restarts the computer in dos to play it.....
win98,can play old dos games quet well.some of the games that requier to ba able to work in dos mode can be done,win98 will restart in dos...
ones i have tested so far that are 95 games that work on 98 are...
>doom
>terminator future shock
>starwars darkforces (original 95 release cd)
>wolfstien ( in dos mode, advance computer conflict with soft were.game is written for pc that use ems/exm mangers, ddram dosen't requier and the game dosen't understand it,so will not play in windows, has to be played in dos to fool it,computers with normal sims slots ram, seem to work well in windows or not....)
>nascar (95 origanal ver..)
beleave this or not>subwar2050 (as long as you can beat the mainboard memory quota ddram or ram...)
win me i have checked into.noticed the OS dose not alow users to gain access to dos.since it is programed to not alow it,i noticed games that need to work in the freedom of dos will not work, from some of my friends telling me ,their system freezes up the screen seems to be a popular thing...so trying to find the right thing to run a dos pc based game would tricky....133mhz or so,defently win95.............alot of freedom for game usage...
GIVE ME A FASTER COMPUTER! WITH TOP OF THE LINE RAM.......BUT I STILL LOVE MY 133....
FYI for those who don't know, with win 98 and newer, some old games will work if you set the appropriate environment variables (eg. dos=umb or files=xx or buffers=xx) run msconfig and go to environment tab
This does not work for all games (Lemmings 3 cd version is a thorn in the side)
Here's a tip for those who don't know. Some old games will work on win98 and up if you set the appropriate environment variables(eg. dos=umb, files=xx or buffers=xx)
set the values by running msconfig and going to the environment tab
doesn't work for all games(Lemmings 3 cd version is a thorn in my side, currently working on patch)
