Weird top-down rpg

I played it on a pc, but I can't remember if it was on an emulator (probably snes or mega drive), and I played it around 2006, but the game could be rom waay earlier. It was a top-down rpg, much like Legend of Zelda or Secret of Mana. I think you could play as different characters, but I would play as a boy that could turn into a big blue robot. The game seemed very plot driven (I coudn't read english at the time so I would'nt know), and I don't think there was combat, but I remember that I could craft a sword... The game scenery was a nice village, and I remember specifically of a bridge that went in front of a water fall...
This may be too vague, but the memories of this game have been haunting me for the last couple of years.
If anyone knows what game this could be, I would highly appreciate, thanks!
