Old space game

Post by Doumastic »

Wow, first off, this site Rocks! I cant belive I found all the games I started off playing as a youngster here. Although, I did not find one. I dont remember the name. I remember playing it on my friends 486, although I think it might have been a few years old then but I dont remember. But anyway, the gameplay was turn based, you had a starbase and you had to build ships. The object was to eliminate the other player. Once involved in a battle you would go to another screen where both player fought each other in real time combat. There where obsticals like planets that could pull you in with their gravity and several different ship with different abilities. I forget weather you had to mine planets for money to build things or how that worked. Man, if you guys can help me find this game, I might just have to stop playing counter-strike and go back to a 386 or something. Thanks

Just got done Downloading that, Gravity Well isnt it. Let me try to add on to what I remeber about the game. I know there was a full scale stradigy part and a Melee battle part. You could play the full game or just fight with different ships. I remeber when you got to another planet or star I dont remember there were only certian path you could take. Also the types of ships I remember are a mother ship which could send out little mini fighters, a small circle super manuverable ship a ship that could disappear and there were others. Thanks

In general this is a RFTS (Reach for the Stars) type game. You start with a planet and build a space faring nation and tech advances to take over everything. There were quite a few of them over the years. Spaceward Ho, When 2 Worlds War, Stelar Empire are but a few of them. I'll keep an eye out...

This one sounds a helluva lot like Star Control 2 to me, actually. It's free nowadays and has been ported to modern operating systems. (works flawlessly on my computer)

You can download it at: http://sc2.sourceforge.net/
