The Eight-Bit Bard: novel homage to classic CRPGs

Post by Quadko »

"The Eight-Bit Bard: A fantasy novel set to the tune of classic computer role-playing games"
by Aaron Rath (Author page, Amazon.com link)

This was a fabulous light and humorous fantasy dungeon-crawl book. I just finished it up for the second time - I really liked it. It's the story of a Bard character in a classic computer RPG game - Wizardry, Ultima, M&M, Gold Box D&D or anything else covered by the CRPG Addict blog. He and his party are trying to make sense of the crazy world they inhabit and their quest, and it's just fun - they live all the rules of playing an old CRPG - the mapping, running to nearby temples for healing, resting up in the inn for health and magic restoration. It's very tongue-in-cheek. There are lots of in references to games, game playing, fantasy books, and gamers, and I know I didn't catch them all. Available in paperback or kindle at Amazon.

Speaking of which, are you familiar with the Order of the Stick webcomic?

Oh, yes, indeed! Was glad the recent OOTS book came out, have them all, though I'm a bit behind the current "daily" comic. Fabulous stuff. I can't believe what he pulled of in great storytelling with the whole series.

How about The Gamers movies and Journey Quest series? I tend to rotate through and get caught up, looks like I'm a bit behind again. They're available through Gog.com now, too. Much easier to get a hold of that way, though lots are on YouTube, too.

"Gamer's: Dorkness Rising" was my first, great! "The Gamers" was kind of a college project; fun, but not polished. Later they did more, and JourneyQuest season one was a very fun episodic project. I can't wait see season 2.

Don't worry that is a cool thing to be into something so much.

Look at the people who flys helicopter like my own father Nguyen Binh Thuy.

He figures he's good enough to fly so he's tries Engineering.

Although I'd have to confess that he knows better than pride and arrogance.

Through his experiences he taught me always keep studying and be humble.

My mother of all people is into landscaping.

She knows how to build a house on a solid foundation.

Her Vietnamese name is Huong Thi Vu.

She's the nice one who always make you feel at home anywhere.

More like you are talking to your own family member.
God, Jesus Christ, is number one!hehe
Jesus Christ!hehe
Bless Jesus Christ!
Then please bless my mom.
Honour to my mom Huong Thi Vu
Honour to my dad Thuy Binh Nguyen
Love to cousin Carl Anh Cuong Cao Vu
Thank you Jesus Christ.
