Looking for some kind of strategy game with a car

Post by Ryan »

I've downloaded many DOS games I used to play, but there's one game I just can't seem to find. I still have the floppy, but I doesn't work on my PC.

On the floppy it says "Economie" (Dutch for Economy), but I doubt that's the real name of the game.

In the game you play as a blue car with a cap (I think a Volkswagen). I can't exactly remember what you were supposed to do, but the goal was collecting enough flowers and bringing them to a pink car. On the road there were other cars which spoke to you, I'm not sure what their purpose was. The view wasn't from the car, but from above the roads like a map.

I hope someone can help me.
Thanks in advance.

I still haven't found it yet.

Here's a picture of the blue car. The floppy also says: "Drive as economic as possible in your car". I hope someone knows this game.

Can't say I recognize the game, but could you be a bit more detailed about that "doesn't work on my PC" ?

If I put the floppy in my PC, it says that it isn't formatted and asks if I want to format it. This happens to all my floppies, not just this one.

Ouch, most probably hardware related (floppy drive) if it happens to all your floppies.

Don't you know anyone with a working floppy drive? Or USB external floppy drive?
Maybe he/she/it could create images of your floppies, floppy images work in dosbox with imgmount, would at least save your stuffs.

We've got two computers with floppy drives, I just tried on the other one. And it worked! It took a while (slow computer), but I was able to copy the files eventually. I can finally play the game again.

Thank you very much for helping, I wouldn't have tried it otherwise.

Glad I could help.

Notice: I would still advise to create images of your stuffs, sooner of later you gonna get faulty floppies.

About that borked floppy drive, it is possible it only needs a good cleaning, there exist head cleaner floppies who gives good results. If you try, do NOT use abrasive ones but the wet kind, comes with special cleaning fluid.
You can find special (freeware) programs that runs with those cleaning flops on the net.

Thanks for the advice. I'll just use the working floppy drive and try to get all the other stuff from my floppies, some I've already downloaded.

So what's the game title anyway? Is it a Dutch game or an English game? Maybe you could post the contents of the readme file?

It's a German game, I didn't know that. Apparently it was made to promote the Volkswagen Golf Ecomatic. It's called Eco Und Ecomine and it seems to be a rare game, all I could find about it was one YouTube video.

In the game you have to collect flowers on the road. When you've got enough, you have to take them to the pink car. There are also other cars on the road, when you hit them you're basically turned around and there's one car that steals your flowers. The game is about driving eco-friendly, you have limited gasoline and more flowers grow when your engine isn't running.
