I recently installed Win95 on my 466mhz computer so I could play Win95 games of which some of them are DOS. I used the D: command in DOS to access the cdrom from there to install a DOS game but it does not respond. How do I make it recognize that command. How do I do this?
[Edit~dosraider]
Edited your topic tittle, 'DOS 101' isn't very meaningful .....
Win95/MsDos problems.
Elaborate a bit please .....
Did you get an error message?
Did you use the MsDos prompt window option?
Did you reboot in MsDos?
Also: If you wanna play Dosgames on such PC you're best solution is to dual boot Win95/MsDos 6.22.
Many dosgames will simply crash as they aren't compatible with the newer drivers (mouse, sound, CD, memory managers ... ) that comes with Win95.
If you have no idea how to dual boot you always can use two HDs, one Win95 and one for MsDos, eventually use a swappable HD tray ....

That's because you don't have CD drivers loaded in MsDos mode.
Solution:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/135174
You need to make that CD drivers are loaded.
Another solution to play MsDos games on a 485/Win95 is to use a dos bootflop, however slower in the boot up, still much better than to use Win95 as MsDos PC regarding gaming compability.

Nope, you need to install MsDos.Kro47 wrote: Is it set up when the disk is formatted?
But honestly, as I see from your questions, it's a bit above your knowledge, not saying that you can't learn the ropes.
Better ask on the spot for help from someone who knows more about those matters......

Will you tell me how its done or direct me to a site that explains how it is done so I can determine if I can do it or not?dosraider wrote:Nope, you need to install MsDos.Kro47 wrote: Is it set up when the disk is formatted?

Linky how to install MsDos:
http://www.computerhope.com/issues/ch000866.htm
But you're not done, you'll need to install CD drivers for MsDos
http://www.computerhope.com/cdromd.htm
You'll need the CD drivers specific for your hardware.
Still not done, mouse .....
http://www.computerhope.com/help/mouse.htm
Also specific for your hardware or generic MsDos mouse drivers.(depends .....)
...and if you have a sound device, will also need to be installed/configured. If ISA a set= comm in autoexec will do for most dosgames, if PCI you'll need specific drivers for your hardware.
