That's what even I thought but it seems they conduct this every year and actually hand out a cash prize of $50,0000. Certainly a very elaborate expensive joke I must say

To be honest, I'd never even heard of the RPS tourny before you showed it. I imagine it's ESPN playing a joke on itself - they constantly broadcast sports that take a ridiculous amount of dedication, skill and tactics to play (football, hockey, baseball, fencing, etc.), and then they have a rock-paper-scissors contest, taking about how "fatigued" the athletes are, running streaks, etc. As if it was anything more than a game of chance. This may seem a little extreme, but keep in mind we have several TV shows dedicated to making fun of our own culture. (just watch South Park or the Daily Show some time) Self deprecation is a very American type of humor, one that people from other countries often have trouble understanding. (Take the Freedom Fries debacle, for example... it was started as a joke by the US Congress cafeteria)

Here's a 5 star motorcycle tour through Chernobyl by a leathered-up, geiger counter-wielding, EU biker chick (wonderfully) named Filatova Elena Vladimirovna. As smart as her cycle is fast, Elena's dad was a Russian nuke power scientist, so she knows not a little about the subject, too. B)

http://www.angelfire.com/extreme4/kiddofspeed/ :bday:

Elena out-does Nat Geo's last story on the subject by lightyears. She's done several updates on the original AND added more from the area. If you're researching nuke incidents, this should be mandatory reading/viewing. For some time it's one of the best reasons I can say the Web is better than TV. B)
