Saving Games [Secret of the Silver Blades]
Saving Games [Secret of the Silver Blades]
I just downloaded DOSBox as well as the Forgotten Realms game Secret of the Silver Blades. How do I save this game? When I select the save option, it tells me to "Put save disk in" but I cheaped out and didn't purchase a disk drive on my Dell. Is there any other way to save the game? Am I hosed?
Try to mount a folder as A drive.
mount a c:\flop\ -t floppy
c:\flop\ => must be an existing folder.
With a bit of luck you're in bussiness.
If it doesn't work, try
mount b c:\flop\ -t floppy
IF the game needs an labeled flop, you're screwed.

Thanks for the assist. I created a flop folder and mounted both but it still prompts me to "put save disk in". Am I doing something wrong? Is there an extra step I should take rather than just select the save option at menu? Also, when I extracted the game it also unlocked a folder entitled "save". Do I need to link that somehow?
Thanks again for the help.

I hardly can answer, as I don't have that specific downloaded game.
I can't give more than some general instructions.
But I guess that that 'save' folder you talk about should be in the game folder that you mount in dosbox.
Can't you ask where you downloaded it?
What's the size of yopur games folder? If it's less than 1.44MB try to mount that as A in dosbox. (And be sure that the 'save' folder is present).

Found the game on XTC, has the same bad load/save behaviour as yours.
Solution:
It needs a specific dir structure to be able to save/load a game:
Unzip the whole thing in c:\games\games\secretof\ -(yes, that's right)-
The trick:
Run dosbox (tested in dosbox 0.72), your inputs:
mount d c:\games\
d:
cd games
cd secretof
start
No, there are no typos, that's what the game needs.
You will be able to save/load your game.
Don't forget to unzip c:\games\games\secretof\save\ subdir.
Aaaaah, the joy of cracked floppy games.![Shit-Eating Grin :D](./images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
BTW, keep track of your ingame saves, it uses slots a la A-B-C-D......

saving game
Do you know what the path is to save games for Curse of the Azure Bonds? Do you save to c:games\games\curseoft\
I saw an earlier post about having to edit the curse.cfg. how do you edit it to save the game?
