Looking for a specific type of adventure game.

Post by nymusicman »

When I was a teenager I really loved the leisure suit larry games. Especially leisure suit larry 7 (Yes I know that was windows). And believe or not it wasn't for the sex. It was because, finally, here was a game where the graphics looked decent, you couldn't die, and the puzzles were intuitive and entertaining.

Now that I'm married I don't feel it's appropriate to be playing games that feature half naked/to full naked women with your mouse pointer being a condom. However, it would be nice to find another game with those other endearing qualities.

Does something like that exist?

Many of the other Sierra-made games (King's Quest, Space Quest, etc) have the same sort of feel as the LSL games, without the sex. Several old Lucasarts games (Monkey Island et al) too.

You might also try some of the free ones in the Adventure category:

In particular Teen Agent and Permanent Daylight are good.

If you're particularly interested in games that are not out to kill you, you should play any and all of the Lucas Games' adventure games(most run with ScummVM natively on pretty much everything)

And aside the list that dosraider linked, there's always the large number of games built using Adventure Game Studio(some of those are quite fantastic). If you're gonna give AGS a spin, be sure to try Yahtzee's Chzo Mythos(download).

Someone mentioned Yahtzee .... :D

You should also take a look at AB reloaded, a lot of crap but also many real gems in the freeware zone ....

I won't advise this or that, look for yourself, there is certainly a lot that fits your taste.

Telltale Games have just re-awoken a lot of the older adventure game series. They have some real gems for download and the graphics are new. Some of their games might be right up your alley.

Most other adventure games have the same qualities fortunatly. Especially the ones for windows that use high-res graphics like Space Quest 6 and Kings Quest 7.. :)

Oh, no-one mentioned Steam either.
Steam is the home to every new adventure game. Go there. Go there now.
