That file listing doesn't look at all as the original dosgame CD Z......
n those are typical windows file extensions, nothing dos like there.
Me thinks you have downloaded the Z and Z Expansion Kit, that's a win95 adaptation of Z
http://www.mobygames.com/game/z-and-z-expansion-kit
Try to burn the CD and run that 'setup' directly in Windows.
If it's gonna run in Vista : no idea ..... sorry.
Can't you ask more info where you downloaded the game?
[Edit]
What you could try:
Mount again in dosbox, get to the D; prompt, do a
cd z
dir/w
And look what you get, with a bit of luck the dosgame is there (or the 'install') , but I admit that's a long shot..... I simply don't know how they adapted the game to W95, sometimes they simply added a win installer on the original dosgame.
And read that 'readme' on the CD, maybe there is some more info in there, ya never know.

No no no, misunderstanding here, complete misunderstanding.
Not your dosbox z:\ prompt but:
mount your CD again in dosbox and set the prompt to D:
From that D; prompt do
cd z
dir/w
looks as:
d:\>
d:\>cd z
d:\Z>dir/w
You must find out what's on that Z folder on your CD.

how do i run this sound on DOSBox?dosraider wrote:Z needs the CD always mounted to play, preferably as D drive.
Install the game from D: to C: IN Dosbox.
Run setsound from the Z folder to set up sound in dosbox.
Choose Creative Labs Sound Blaster Pro (new version) for sound device.
Dosbox full screen:alt+enter
First of all, learn to use dosbox, read and apply this:

Next, did you download a CD image?

As far as I know you need or the CD or a CD image to run Z.
Maybe they've cracked the game you downed, maybe you need some specific mount to get it running, but I have no idea, can't you ask where you downed the game? Or check if there isn't an info/readme file included.
That or hunt on the internet for a valid CD image (ISO or BIN/CUE).

Still Z
I am on Windows 7 64 bit, trying to play Z (DOS version of the game) with DOSbox 0.72.
I mount the cd-rom directory to C in DOSbox, and write C:\install
I get to the installation menu and start the installation, but then this happens:
WARNING: file creation failed: C:\...\DOSG4W.exe
Any help will be very much appreciated.

Upgrade to 0.74, 0.72 is old ...

Mount your CD as D and then install from D on C in dosbox.
Or even better: create a BIN/CUE image from the CD and use imgmount to mount that image as CDdrive D in dosbox, works much better.

Various problems encountered trying to play Z
Evening Raider,
First I was tempted to drop into pirate speak as you have been but I figure that might be a bit confusing... Oh and btw when saying The in pirate youd be better saying Tha as against De which sounds french...
Anyway to my difficulties, I was given a downloaded copy in part of a huge zip folder of old dos games, ran set sound and video and uvconf etc, came up with missing mane.lbm close cd error, read through your previous assistance posts, decided to search out and download an Iso, removed all previous incarnations from harddrive, burned iso onto a disk, mounted cdrom and install location in dosbox (running .74) ran the install file all seemed well. Game intro vids played fine (little bit of crackle on midi tracks), im thinking GREAT~!!! finally get to play Z again. but no first level loading screen game crashes. Crap:(
Read through previous posts again tried running game with SVGA on but that crashed even before loading screen came up.
after crashing I get a missing file error... Headfx.PAC...
Btw my run set up is as follows. I have a home network, dosbox is installed in primary system running xp, I am playing through terminal which is operating Vista. Z is installed on terminal hdd.
Can you offer any assistance or advice?
