And the stuff runs pretty good I must say.
Not that I would run it on a modern PC, but if you have an older PC or laptop laying around gathering dust it's a good applic to blow new life in it.
thats nothing like what I am creating what I am creating is a portable gaming system on a usb drive that is based off of DOS for playing games.
Its near Release Candidate and then after that release.

Status update:I am almost completely done creating Retroplay now I am just doing some testing and I am expecting a release sometime in March.

Retroplay is a portable gaming system on a USB drive for playing all kinds of classic retro games such as Duke Nukem,Doom, Jill Of The Jungle and many more games.

After Retroplay is released in March depending on how popular it ends up I will probably continue with Retroplay related stuff.

So pretty much the concept is that games are downloaded off the Retroplay website and then put in a numbered folder and then it automaticaly gets installed in Retroplay.

A video of Retroplay can be found here:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lbiso0BBXys

Release candidate

Post by the123zach »

Ok status update and preview of what will be the 1.0 version of Retroplay
I don't think posting this reply counts as bumping as this project is still very active infact almost complete too(Took longer than I had anticipated but its pretty much done just need to get feedback and finish setting up the website)

*drumroll* Retroplay is now almost complete id just like to get some feedback etc. from this preview this is so close to the 1.0 release that maybe i should be calling this a Release candidate

This preview or release candidate as i should be calling it is 99% close to what will be the 1.0 release that will be released by the end of March

Known bugs in this release candidate are that will be fixed in the release are:
sometimes the screen will go a little dark this has been fixed and the fix will be in the release
When changing settings in the settings manager don't get applied I have fixed this and the fix will be in the release

What is Retroplay:Retroplay is a portable gaming system on a USB drive powered by FreeDOS for playing Dos classics such as Duke Nukem, Doom, Jill Of The Jungle, Epic Pinball and many more classic games you are bound to enjoy.

Retroplay is 100% menu driven no knowledge of DOS required and you don't even need to know what DOS is in order to use Retroplay its that easy

There are many games available for download off of the Retroplay website and are easily installable into Retroplay just put the downloaded gamedisk file into one of the eight(8) numbered folders in the games folder.

It is easy to use, just insert the USB drive with Retroplay on it and use the bootmenu to boot Retroplay and use the easy menus and you'll be playing in no time.

A gamedisk is a game that is packaged for use with Retroplay.

Retroplay is portable you can play a game on one computer and continue where you left off on a different computer.

There are lots of Gamedisks.

Retroplay and all Gamedisks are 100% free and downloadable.

No problemo.

BTW:
A serial or a PS/2 mouse(USB mice don't work unless legacy mouse is set in your BIOS or on an adapter)
Damn, not many still have a a non-USB mouse ......I would even say more: on most newer mobos you can't connect a PS/2 mouse, only USB.

[Edit], To clarify: this wasn't meant as nitpicking, but I get the idea you don't have access to the newest hardware ..... and thus don't know such things.
Am I right?

Actually i do have access to the latest hardware infact most of the time i am developing and playing Retroplay on a modern dual core PC 2.7ghz.

USB mice can be used if the legacy option is set in the BIOS to make freedos think your USB mouse is a PS/2 mouse.

Ahem
the123zach wrote: People that dont know dos or old computers dont want to mess with all kinds of options where as in Retroplay everything is menu driven and installation of Retroplay and games are as easy as can be and much easier than Dosbox.
If you think n00bs will go poking around in their bios ..... think again.

Release

Post by the123zach »

Retroplay 1.0 is now released and is available for download off of the Retroplay website

this is the release version and will be the only version if/ever there is ever a 2.0
www.retroplay.cjb.net

All issues from the release candidate have been fixed including the issue some people had booting Retroplay.

Retroplay USB is a gaming system powered by FreeDOS for playing old Dos games on a USB drive.

*It is portable you can play a game on one computer and continue where you were playing on a different computer

*Is menu driven and you don't need to know a single Dos command or even know what Dos is in order to use it

*There are lots of games available for download on the Retroplay website and can be installed into Retroplay just by copying the downloaded file onto the USB drive

*A good alternative to DosEMU and the other Dos emulators cause of its ease of use and is 100% computer novice friendly that even someone that doesn't know what Dos is can use Retroplay

I don't think I forgot anything if anyone has any questions feel free to ask and ill try my best to answer
