Ok i did some more searching and i've got DOSBox to work. I installed the game from my cd and ran it with:

mount c c:\games

c:

z

z

but there was a file missing, so i uninstalled it and downloaded it, entered the same commands and it worked!

However the screen was in windowed mode, i couldn'y enlarge it. There was no sound and after level one the game crashes.

Z needs the CD always mounted to play, preferably as D drive.
Install the game from D: to C: IN Dosbox.
Run setsound from the Z folder to set up sound in dosbox.
Choose Creative Labs Sound Blaster Pro (new version) for sound device.

Dosbox full screen:alt+enter

Ok I'm not sure how to always mount the CD, i tried mounting my D drive and it says that the directory doesn't exist.

I reinstalled Z into my DOSBox folder located at c:\DOSBox-0.72.

The sound a music works now thanks. :)

I can't get it to go to full screen mode, i've tried alt+enter while playing the game and before but nothing.

I ran the game though by doing:

mount c c:\DOSBox-0.72

c:

cd z

z.bat

But when i click on new game, after the loading screen this happens. http://img26.imageshack.us/my.php?image=doserror1.jpg

You don't like my explainations how to set up dosbox, a virtual C:\ or how to mount a CDdrive ?
You really don't like them explainations?
You hurt my feelings now.
:blah:

If you're on Vista (BTW, I still have no idea what your OS is......) your mountings will never work swell, Vista protects all that's on C:\whatever\ and not in your personal user folder.

Your explanations are fine, i'm just confused what i'm doing.

Ok now I've tried:

mount d c:\ -t cdrom

mount c c:\DOSBox-0.72

c:

cd z

z.bat

..and the same thing still happens.

Sorry didn't think my OS would be important :shame: . Here it is:

AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual
Core processor 4600+
2.39GHz, 1.75 GB of RAM
Physical address extension

Geforce 7050PV / NVIDIA nForce 630a

OS: Vista or XP?
And: Do not mount your C: as CDdrive.
:blah:

Once again, read and apply:
If on XP:
http://www.dosgames.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=5443
If on Vista:
http://www.dosgames.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=10437

There is nowhere mention of mounting c:\dosbox 0.72\ .....

Delete all what you've done t'll now, start from scratch and please, PLEASE give relevant answers on my questions.
OS?
Do you have the original CD or not?

Sorry, XP.

And i'm not sure what i'm doing with mounting my CDdrive, i read:

CD drive mount:
mount d x:\ -t cdrom
x:\ is your real drive letter in windows.
CDdrive mounted with full hardware support as D:

c is my main drive so i replaced it with x. ??

I mounted c:\dosbox-0.72\ cause when i tried to run the game from c it said it needed to be mounted and it wanted a directory.

How do i delete what i've done?

OS = XP
Yes i have the cd but there was a file missing when i tried to run it so i uninstalled it and downloaded it.

How to delete stuff
You highlight (select) the folders files you want to delete and hit the delete key.

1-> You install dosbox 0.72 where it belongs, this is in c:\program files

2-> You open my computer, go to your C drive, create a new folder named:
c:\dosgames\

3-> You stick your CD in the CD drive.
You open 'my computer' and you look what the drive letter is for the CDdrive.

4-> You run dosbox and you input:
mount c c:\dosgames
Then you mount the CDdrive as D: in dosbox with:
mount d x:\ -t cdrom
replace the x:\ by the real CDdrive letter under windows.

5-> in dosbox input:
d:
install

When asked install the game on C:\Z in dosbox with the sound choices I gave you before.

To run the game once it's installed:
-> run dosbox and input:

mount c c:\dosgames
mount d x:\ -t cdrom
c:
cd z
z

Wow thankyou so much! Works completely. :D

Two questions though:

While playing the game it's like zoomed in loads, how can i make it so you play it zoomed out like it's supposed to?

And when i enter the code to start it up, do i have to mount everything each time or will it save it?

Thankyou. :D

Btw the enlarging of the DOSBox wasn't working because i was using alt+enter instead of alt+the enter with the arrow on it. :P

You're welcome. :D

You can save the mount lines as described there:
http://www.dosgames.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=5443
under heading [autoexec]

Though I wouldn't automount the CDdrive.
Best only add:
mount c c:\dosgames
c:

The rest is easily typed when you want to run the game.
And that way you can install/run other dosgames, should you want.

BTW, I don't fully understand what you mean by
While playing the game it's like zoomed in loads...
???

Ok well look at the picture of the game here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Linux ... ED.0.1.jpg.

Now when i play it the screen would view for example the main base and the right soldiers only. So it's zoomed in a lot and i would like it to view it like the picture there, i remember playing it like that. :)

And i will just type everything each time...just to be safe. I presume i'll want to play other DOS games aswell.

Did you followed this:
http://www.dosgames.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=10437 ?
Also:

Original game?
Your mount lines?
Can you get the D: prompt?
And if you can get the D: prompt, input dir /w and see what you get.

.... details, you know, the stuff works, so you can safely assume you screwed up somewhere, hard to tell where exactly without knowing all the details .......
