Beyond DOS 6.22

Rwolf wrote: Curiously, DOS 10.0 was the version number used with IBM:s OS/2 text console, but I would not call OS/2 a GUI for DOS.
I always thought OS/2 was the baseline for Windows. I could be way wrong about that. But it was DOS 6.22, then next thing was OS/2.

Anyone use Telnet?

Funny you should mention backup drives...I have like 3-4 of them and randomly save to all of them. It got so confusing with all the duplicates that I finally had to spend an entire evening separating everything out. Now I'm strict about putting fun stuff on one drive, business on another etc. Well ...

Old CD Magazines / Magazine CDs for download

I remember way way back when I still had my 386, I read a PC gaming magazine (not sure which one it was) and I remember seeing this list of 100 games. There were two columns, PC and MAC. And I remember the PC column had a black dot for every game listed. Only 6 dots or so showed up for the MAC colum...

Yikes! Haha, glad your drive mounting didn't result in any catastrophes. I don't think I've ever done a root mount...I just know I'd have rotten luck and overwrite something. Yeah I have Mint 21.3 installed on my spare comp downstairs...what's funny is, it's the most powerful computer I have, with ...

DosBox for Linux. Does it work?

For whatever reason I've been lucky - I've installed Mint on several machines and never had that issue. I do see if you go to the Mint forums and search for blinking cursor, a ton of results pop up (including what you posted, I'm sure) so you're not alone, but I'm guessing there's a bunch of possib...

It's fun reading about your retro adventures! Wow that is a lot of Ataris, you should open up an arcade lol. Classic NES consoles are hard to come by these days, but I do have an old Atari in the closet with a large handful of games. I also got one of those "Gamestation Pro" models as a g...

First off please, how do you limit the cycles to 386 or 486?? You got me very curious on that one  Back when Circuit City was still in business, I owned one of the first flatscreen TV's. It was a 32" for $600 I believe. I wanted something larger so broke down and got rid of it for a TCL ...

DosBox for Linux. Does it work?

Sheesh. Kind of pointless to have a forum at all in that case... Well hopefully you're getting some good tips here. I've personally only used Mint. I think that's because I do associate Linux with "hacky-ness" well beyond DOS, and I wanted to get as far away from that as possible. Have no...

Anyone use Telnet?

Hi again - this is becoming a habit! Yes I use Telemate 4.21 in Dosbox and you get the nice ASCII text pages and everything. Just like the old days. It's shareware so it does have annoying nag screen after exiting, but then I just close Dosbox anyway so it doesn't bother me. I'm currently dealing w...

DosBox for Linux. Does it work?

Weird. Was that the Linux Mint forum? Yeah I'd probably ignore that advice. The whole point of Mint is to be as gentle an introduction to the world of Linux as possible, not to overcomplicate things and require obscure solutions to problems. You might have encountered a more hardcore crowd that has...

So there's this other program called Zmud. It's a client that has a huge list of MUD's you can play. Well anyway, back in the day you could connect to BBS's with a dial-up modem and apparently if you use Telnet on modern systems, with cable internet you can connect in like the old days. I think I ha...

DosBox for Linux. Does it work?

Yes I have had success, also on Mint (Cinnamon). Make sure to install the...flatpak? flathub? Basically the version that installs another GB or so of files to ensure maximum compatibility. I The smaller version worked ok until an update around 19.3 or 20.x seemed to break it. The main issues I have...

Magic Carpet by Bullfrog having some issues in Dos Box

I bought Magic Carpet Plus on GOG a little while back, and just normal gameplay, the game crashed in DOSBOX. I'll be super honest, I don't really trust GOG's way of configuring DOSBox that they package with their games. I've never played the full Magic Carpet 2 since I don't have it, so I cannot tr...

So long story short, I can't upgrade to win11, and I can't get a new PC that would conform to Mr. Sadya Nutella's vision (microsoft CEO) in order to run the new OS. I've previously used Linux Mint 19 a few years ago, and actually had it installed for all of two whole days before reverting back to Wi...

Privateer/Privateer: Righteous Fire Joystick question

What I figure from the timed=true or timed=false in the joystick section, is that the polling is done with fixed timed intervals (timed=true) or as fast as possible (timed=false), which I know affects some games joystick sensitivity. (Cannot try Privateer at the moment, I have managed to hide my CD...

Beyond DOS 6.22

So I wasn't even aware of this, but Windows 9x came with MS-DOS 7, and Windows 4.0. Microsoft never released DOS 7 as its own release. Anyway, what I wanted to ask was, let's say DOS 7 was its own release. Say we have internet capability. If you want to access websites/download things, that would al...

Privateer/Privateer: Righteous Fire Joystick question

Did you try the 'timed' stick polling? That is what I usually have to change in these cases. Is that what option I need to change for sensitivity? I haven't tried that because I figured if there was a sensitivity setting/option in DosBox, it would be straightforward/explained in the manual which it...

Privateer/Privateer: Righteous Fire Joystick question

There are some parameters for the joystick, e.g. setting for how the stick is polled - I usually do this with a frontend D-Fend Reloaded. Here is a command list: https://www.dosbox.com/DOSBoxManual.html#Joystick As for other versions, there is DOSBox-X: https://dosbox-x.com/wiki/Guide%3ASetting-up-...

Privateer/Privateer: Righteous Fire Joystick question

So I picked the game back up about a year ago. I used to always play this game with a Thrustmaster joystick back in the day. Now that all of that is gone, I have a Logitech 3D Extreme joystick and am trying to play the game. When you are in space and you move the joystick ever so slightly, it moves ...

Magic Carpet by Bullfrog having some issues in Dos Box

I bought Magic Carpet Plus on GOG a little while back, and just normal gameplay, the game crashed in DOSBOX. This would have been the DosBox version that comes with the game (not sure what version that would be) but I am feeling as if there are issues between games and DosBox.
