Rise of the Triad crashes with memory error
I'm trying to play a custom mapset in the '94 game Rise of the Triad. On actual hardware, it does not crash at all. In DOSBox, at various parts of any level, the game crashes with an error about being unable to allocate (number differs with each crash, like 152) bytes. I tried setting memsize up to ...

Anyone interested/collect those 90s shovelware addon discs for PC games?
Context: Popular 90s FPS games like Doom, Doom II, Heretic, Hexen, ROTT, Duke 3D, Quake, etc had a lot of user made levels and other content even within years of their release. A lot of it was put up online, except internet use/access wasn't quite "there" for the general population. So a w...

Testing DOS game on original hardware
Yeah, the DOSBox-X dev said many of the issues encountered are likely CPU speed related. I have not heard from them any further on investigating this version, unfortunately. Thing with the DOS version, it follows the NES source material very closely and there are no differences with respect to the p...

Testing DOS game on original hardware
Actually, these are from original, unaltered disk images. The problems manifested in one of *those* copies from online, so I figured it's probably due to that. But a few years ago, I tested my disk image files that are an original backup; all of the exact same problems occur. Made it seem more and m...

Testing DOS game on original hardware
Yeah the Metal Gear DOS version. I don't know what system specs it would need beyond what's on the box sticker https://www.mobygames.com/game/dos/metal-gear/cover-art/gameCoverId,14329/ But I know that games can be more picky than that in their requirements despite not being stated, down to not play...

Testing DOS game on original hardware
Is there anyone with working original DOS hardware that might be able to test a certain game? It's notoriously broken, but the only experiences and reports so far have been through emulation.

Metal Gear DOS - now confirmed to be shipped broken
It can be safely concluded that the DOS version of Metal Gear was badly tested before being released. Chock full of bugs, the worst ones being a bunch that block player progress. -3 essential items don't appear in their respective rooms. -1 essential item is acquired by defeating a certain boss, or ...

Necrobump, but for good reason. I got confirmation that the C64 version of this game was fatally flawed on release. It brings more likelihood that the same applies to the DOS version. It is, however, worth noting that Metal Gear for DOS was also released in Europe (at least Germany). So perhaps the ...

DOS version of Metal Gear
This may be a problem with the downloadable version of Metal Gear for DOS that's widely available online. When you play the game, you'll easily notice that it's plagued with problems and I'm not talking about any of the gameplay quirks. Probably the most important issues are the flat out game-breaki...
